It is based on the proven QWIP technology with thousands of fielded detectors, but with a twist: the grating is arranged in a 1D-structure to create a polarimetric contrast between pixels. This makes i it possible to distinguish the polarity of the incoming IR radiation in the image, leading to exciting new applications in areas such as drone tracking, facial recognition, oil spill detection and much more.
